PRODUCT AND TECHNOLOGY

Role in the system and operating principle

01

Product description

Lead-acid batteries are an established, reliable energy-storage technology for UPS, industrial DC, telecom, security and emergency applications. VRLA AGM, gel and flooded options suit different autonomy, discharge and maintenance requirements.

02

Operating principle

Positive lead-dioxide and negative lead electrodes react electrochemically in sulphuric-acid electrolyte to produce electrical energy. Charging reverses the reaction to restore stored energy. Usable capacity depends on temperature, discharge current, end voltage and ageing.

03

Maintenance and lifecycle

Battery life is directly related to temperature, charging voltage, depth of discharge and cycle count. Periodic voltage, temperature, connection and capacity checks help identify performance loss early. Flooded batteries also require electrolyte-level and density checks.

APPLICATIONS

Engineering for the duty profile.

TECHNICAL QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Are VRLA batteries maintenance-free?

No water topping-up does not mean no inspection. Connections, voltage, temperature and capacity must be monitored.

Why is battery life shortened?

High temperature, insufficient charging, frequent deep discharge and cell imbalance are principal factors.
