UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER

Power continuity for critical loads

Power failures and mains voltage fluctuations can affect servers, communications equipment and industrial controls. A correctly selected UPS supports continuity and supplies critical loads from batteries for the required duration.

EKA System considers load power, phase arrangement, target autonomy, installation space and redundancy together. Single- and three-phase online UPS options and modular systems are assessed against present project requirements and growth plans.

PRODUCT OPTIONS

UPS options suited to your requirements

Rack-mount UPS units suit server and network cabinets. Tower units are considered where independent installation is required.

Three-phase UPS systems are selected for commercial and industrial loads with a suitable phase arrangement. Three-phase input, single-phase output systems provide an alternative where single-phase loads need support from a three-phase supply.

In modular UPS systems, power modules are configured for present load and future capacity needs. Installed power, maximum cabinet capacity and modules reserved for redundancy are assessed together.

01

PRODUCT AND TECHNOLOGY

Online double-conversion technology

During normal operation, an online double-conversion UPS converts incoming AC to DC, then generates AC output through the inverter. This controls output voltage and frequency to provide regulated power for critical loads.

When mains power fails, batteries provide DC energy and the inverter continues supplying critical loads under suitable operating conditions. Static and maintenance bypass are considered for faults, overload and servicing. The bypass source, protection limits and transfer conditions depend on the selected model.

BATTERIES AND AUTONOMY

Battery autonomy matters as much as power

UPS capacity and battery runtime are separate selection criteria. Autonomy depends on actual load, battery capacity and condition, ambient temperature and system operating conditions.

Battery sizing considers whether the objective is to operate critical equipment for a defined period, bridge generator start-up or allow controlled shutdown. Internal and external battery options are assessed with installation space and maintenance requirements.

APPLICATIONS

Engineering for the duty profile.

SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE

Options configured for the project

Depending on requirements, options may include modular capacity expansion, parallel operation, redundancy, maintenance bypass, external battery cabinets and remote monitoring. Availability depends on the UPS model and system configuration.

Operating status, load level, battery information and alarms can be monitored through the local display and supported communication interfaces. SNMP, RS485 and dry contacts are selected with the interfaces and accessories available for the model.

TECHNICAL QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Is the kVA rating alone sufficient to select a UPS?

No. Assess kW capacity, load power factor, starting or transient loads, phase arrangement, redundancy and target autonomy together.

When should a modular UPS be selected?

It may suit projects requiring capacity expansion over time or redundancy through an appropriate module arrangement. Usable load capacity must account for modules reserved for redundancy.

How many minutes can a UPS operate?

Runtime cannot be calculated from UPS power alone. Battery sizing must use actual load, battery capacity and operating conditions.

Can every UPS model use lithium batteries?

No. DC voltage, charging characteristics and the manufacturer-supported BMS connection must be verified for lithium battery use.
